The J – Coach Code of Conduct
The safety, well-being, and healthy development of our players are the highest priorities at The J.
All coaches, staff, volunteers, and representatives of The J will:
Show respect to all involved in the game — players, referees, coaches, staff, parents, and spectators — serving as role models of good sportsmanship.
Promote fair play, high behavioral standards, and adherence to the spirit and laws of the game.
Always respect the referee’s decision. Any concerns will be addressed through appropriate channels, never directly during or after a match in a confrontational manner.
Treat all players equally, regardless of gender, race, religion, or background.
Maintain appropriate physical boundaries with players and respect their right to personal space.
Never be alone with a single player in a private or unobservable setting.
Ensure players are supervised at all times before, during, and after J events, and never leave a child unsupervised until they are picked up.
Never engage in any form of physical, verbal, sexual, or mental abuse.
Use positive guidance techniques such as encouragement, constructive feedback, and age-appropriate expectations — avoiding comparisons or humiliation.
Avoid the use, possession, or influence of alcohol or illegal drugs before or during any J event involving players.
Prohibit smoking, vaping, or tobacco use at any J event or facility.
Never engage in physical or verbal confrontations; profanity is prohibited.
Avoid inappropriate jokes or sharing personal intimate details with players.
Limit electronic and phone communications with players to soccer-specific topics; social networking between coaches and individual players is discouraged.
Model respect, humility, and a commitment to player-centered development in every session, game, and interaction.
I understand that failure to follow this Coach Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, removal from coaching duties, and/or termination from The J’s soccer program.
